CART

CART stands for Communication Access Real-Time translation and is most easily described as subtitles for live discussions. Spoken language is translated by either on-site or remote transcribers into text and displayed in various ways, i.e., computer screen, video screen during live presentations, etc. A CART writer transcribes all that is heard into text which is displayed instantaneously so that the audience can follow. The attendees then obtain a link so that they can retrieve the information at any time.

CART services are beneficial in many settings. Classrooms, Business meetings, training, presentations, and special events are just some of the settings where Deaf and Hard of Hearing people can benefit from real-time captioning. Captioning benefits everyone in any group that can read. Captioning is another way that your organization can provide equal communication access which is required by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
